For the first time, the global Web3 community will come together on September 20 to participate in International NFT Day, an annual moment to celebrate non-fungible tokens across the industry. It was on this day five years ago that Dapper Labs CTO Dete Shirley submitted NFT standard ERC-721 and first coined the term “non-fungible token.”
Since then, NFTs have ballooned into an industry that generates more than $USD 40 billion in transactions per year. The technology is progressively working its way into the mainstream, with recent moves including Instagram’s new NFT display feature and Ticketmaster’s new capability to create digital keepsake tickets, but we’re still early in the journey.
NFT Day provides an annual moment for our collective industry to rally together to show mainstream consumers how Web3 can add real value to the experiences and products they already love and enjoy. From creators and collectors, to developers and founders, when we work together we can reach a far greater audience than any of us will on our own. NFT Day will feature participation from projects, blockchains, and brands across the industry including OpenSea, Gaia, Flovatar, BuildSpace, Inception Animals, TheFirstMint, Sturdy Exchange, Metaverse HQ, Krikey, LearnWeb3, This is Epix, Ripple, CryptoPiggos, TuneGo, and Seussibles.
Interested in participating? Let’s explore some of the ways you and your network can get involved.
One of the best parts about NFT Day is it’s not designed to benefit just one company or blockchain–anyone in the world can participate, and there are dozens of ways for the Web3 community to join in.
